As a photographer, it is that artist's duty to make the commonplace mysterious; to make the ugly beautiful. This is what I aimed to accomplish with my photonarrative, "The Beauty of Neglect".
Neglect is cruel and lazy. Beauty is timeless and everpresent. How dare anyone not take the time to acknowledge the beauty in the world. Yet, there are those who neglect beauty. Therefore, I took it upon myself to photograph an oft-neglected source of beauty. What some people call weeds or dead plant life is made into the most beautiful flowers in the world after my own deeply physical, human body. Sometimes, I feel like the beauty which I document; that I may not be considered beautiful by those who have not seen me yet, but that I exist proves that I am beautiful.
